49th Annual National Prayer Breakfast – May 7th & 8th, 2014

The National Prayer Breakfast and Leadership dinner is a highlight for many across Canada as political barriers are removed and the people of Canada come together united under the common bond to pray for their nation. This year, the 49th, was no exception. The planning team, chaired by Colin Mayes, MP of Okanagan-Shushwap did an outstanding job of putting together a thought provoking and uplifting program for both the dinner and breakfast themed, “Faith that Changes the World.”

Guests of the Leadership dinner were inspired with music provided by Ottawa local Rachel Dillman accompanied by Lois Brown, MP for Newmarket-Aurora which set the tone for the rest of the evening. Described as “One of Canada’s Heroes” Brian McConaghy, founder of Ratanak International, shared his heartbreaking story of encountering devastation in Cambodia following the civil war in the late 80’s and how the Lord called him to serve the people of that nation. Through Ratanak International, McConaghy and his team give hands and feet to Christ by loving the children of Cambodia who have been irrevocably marked by war. Brian’s story is testimony that by living a life of faith in God, we too can witness the impossible occur.

The conference room was abuzz Thursday morning as guests gathered with the purpose of praying for Canada. After opening prayers and scripture readings from various political parties, Rod Wilson, president of Regent College shared “Three phrases that could change the world.” Wilson’s address was succinct but powerful as he explained how “Thank You, I’m Sorry and Tell Me More,” are keys to richer interpersonal relationships and a deeper spiritual connection with God. The event concluded with joyful music from the Ottawa Catholic School Board Chamber Choir.
